Late-life depression is a common mental health condition affecting around 9.7% of the older population in Hong Kong, and yet access to depression care remains a significant public health concern in this population. Get Busy Get Better: Helping Older Adults Beat the Blues (GBGB) is a 10-session community-integrated home-based intervention designed for older people with depressive symptoms. The intervention consists of 5 interrelated treatment components, including case management, referral and linkage, depression education, stress reduction, and behavioral activation. Accumulating evidence indicates that GBGB is an efficacious and cost-effective intervention for managing depressive symptoms and improving quality of life in old age. The workshop will cover the theoretical and empirical basis of GBGB, and focus on developing skills and techniques necessary for applying GBGB to support older people with depressive symptoms.
