Sleep problem is very common in old age, and may represent a risk factor and potential symptom of depression. Social service professionals working with older persons need to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills in identifying and handling these problems. In this workshop, participants will gain fundamental knowledge about sleep and insomnia, understand the treatment options and concerns about insomnia in older persons, and learn about the assessment of insomnia. In addition, participants will be provided with an overview of the cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia. This will form the basis for the advanced workshops on mindfulness approach and cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia.
