Dr Ray Huang
PhD in Electrical Engineering, California Institute of Technology
Office Director and Principal Engineer, Exponent

How are some of the spectacular product failures resolved? Who took responsibility of the failure? What parties were involved in the investigation? What analytical technique were employed? How was scientific method used to understand the root cause? This talk will cover some case studies in wearable electronics, battery devices and other consumer product involved in either stop-ships, customer injuries/complaints, or safety recalls and provide insight on the behind-the-scene of how investigations are performed.

Dr. Huang was an Electrical Engineer by trade. He developed implantable Parylene MEMS platforms for retinal and neural prosthetic during his graduate work at California Institute of Technology, where he also built pressure sensors and lab-on-a-chip devices for biomedical applications. After graduating with his Ph.D, he joined Exponent and developed expertise in product liability, intellectual property, emerging technology due diligence and product dispute resolution. During his tenure at Exponent, he worked in Europe, Asia and North America advising industrial and legal clients with focus on devising strategic plan to address technical risk for consumer electronics hardware and software. He also specializes in helping corporations establish safety, quality and reliability programs and organizations.
