Abstract: Drawing on his recently published book The Unequal City Professor Short will discuss the major behind the resurgence in central cities around the globe and the displacement of the poor. The role of liquid capital, the revalorization of time and space, urban megaprojects, the importance of demographic trends will be discussed. The consequences of these trends and their unfolding across global cities will be examined. The competing forces of the securitization and democratization of the city will be evaluated.
