South Korea’s Hanjin Shipping Company Limited went into liquidation in February 2017. The liquidator has been selling vessels and other assets to pay off creditors. Hanjin vessels have been arrested at different ports around the world, including Hong Kong, which led to the largest ever judicial sale of vessels in Hong Kong (over US$600 million). The creditors’ claims total about US$10 billion. Distribution to creditors will be carried out under the South Korean bankruptcy law according to a plan to be finalised in South Korea. Professor Kim In-Hyeon of Korea University will discuss the latest development of the liquidation proceedings.
