Professor Wu will talk about his survey project designs of Hong Kong Panel Study of Social Dynamics (HKPSSD) and Shanghai Urban Neighborhood Survey (SUNS), and share some preliminary findings.
Xiaogang Wu (Ph.D., UCLA, 2001) is Professor of Social Science and Founding Director of the Center for Applied Social and Economic Research (CASER) at HKUST. His research interests include social stratification and mobility, labor markets and economic sociology, and quantitative methods. His previous work has appeared in American Sociological Review, American Journal of Sociology, Social Forces, Demography, Social Science Research, and other leading journals in area studies. Professor Wu has received numerous highly competitive research grants and fellowships from the most prestigious funding agencies in the world, including the US National Institute of Health, European Research Council, and the Hong Kong RGC Collaborative Research Fund. He has been the Principle Investigator of the “Hong Kong Panel Study of Social Dynamics” (HKPSSD) since 2009, also working with colleagues in Shanghai University on a similar project, “Shanghai Urban Neighborhood Survey” (SUNS). Professor Wu is the founding editor of the Chinese Sociological Review (CSR). In 2012, he was awarded the Prestigious Fellowship in Humanities and Social Sciences by the University Grants Committee of Hong Kong.
