下週一(4月3日)為日本之月的首日,將有兩個活動同時舉行,首先是JASO Tenmangu—Wishing for Success in Exams with Japanese Ema Plaques,於日本神社中,人們會把自己的祈願寫在繪馬上並掛起來期待著願望成真。

Dear all,

It is the time of the year again, where the air is filled with the sweet-smelling cherry blossoms. For us, this means the annual Japan Month is nearing.

This year, we proudly present you: Ms. Tomoko Tanaka, a violinist from Kumamoto, Japan. She will be giving us a violin performance of her best songs. Secondly, we and Art Club, HKUSU are joining efforts in bringing you the Omamori Workshop. Also, there is no way we can miss the Chado event which can purify our souls and calm our busy minds. Last but not least, we are continuing the tradition of bringing you the Ema writing event, at which we write our wishes and hope they come true.

Next Monday (3rd April) marks the start of Japan Month. There will be two events going on at the same time. The first one would be the JASO Tenmangu—Wishing for Success in Exams with Japanese Ema Plaques. In traditional Japanese shrines, people would write their wishes on a wooden plaque, and tie them up on a rack. Tenmangu is the God whom people pray to for academic success. We have therefore chosen this theme to suit the time period, where all of us will be cramming for exams. We also have a hand-made torii for you to take photos with.

The other event will be the Young Leaders Tour of Japan Photo Exhibition. We will be showcasing photos taken by student participants of this programme, of which have visited the northeastern part of Japan during the reading week period. The exhibition will last for the entire Japan Month, until 28th April. It is open to all HKU staff and students.

Should you have any enquiries, please contact Yoko Lam (6997 7697) or Alex Bozzolan (6169 7071), or send an email to Please feel free to like the society’s Facebook page at to catch our latest events and updates.

Hope to see you all at Japan Month!
