Reflexive Identity exhibition
posted by Department of Sociology for HKU and Public
Event Type: Exhibition
Event Nature: Culture and Arts
When our life experiences become increasing complex and uncertain in late modern societies, dealing with the constant flux and living a life of one’s own have become the new life narratives today. The project requires constant reflection, monitoring and confrontation of our “selves” and experimentation of our manifold identities.
Entitled Reflexive Identity, this exhibition features five ceramic artists who craft their own biographies and life narratives with one of the oldest art forms. Their understanding of identity and city life in Hong Kong is expressed in their individual art works and re-articulated in dialogue (co-creation) with each other’s works. Altogether, the exhibited ceramic works accentuate the hybridity and fluidity of identity in creatively and aesthetically pleasing forms, triggering the spectators’ rethinking about and reimagining their own identities, and their relationship to the world they dwell in today.
