The HKU Non-pharmacological Interventions Initiative for Dementia
Workshop on Adult Day Services Plus (ADS Plus)
The HKU Non-pharmacological Interventions Initiative (HKU Non-pharm) aims at introducing and testing evidence-informed non-pharmacological interventions to promote better living of people with health and mental health problems and their family members.
The Adult Day Services Plus (ADS Plus) is an evidence-based community support programme for family caregivers of persons with dementia. ADS Plus offers systematic caregiver support to improve strategies for better caregiving and to enhance caregivers’ wellbeing. ADS Plus was shown to reduce caregivers’ depression, enhance their efficacy for managing behavioral symptoms and reduce nursing home placement.
After this workshop, participants will understand the background and development of ADS Plus, appreciate its design, underlying principles and core components, and learn about related research evidence and recent development. Moreover, the speakers will facilitate discussion on local adaptation and implementation strategies for promoting ADS Plus in Hong Kong.
