One of Fruit Chan’s most critically-acclaimed films, Made in Hong Kong won Best Picture and Best Director honors at the 17th Hong Kong Film Awards. A true independent film, shot on a shoestring budget using non-professional actors, Made in Hong Kong follows the uncertain life and loves of young triad Autumn Moon (Sam Lee). A commentary on youth and urban alienation in the run up to the Hong Kong Handover, the film raises many issues that are still pertinent 20 years later.
