Title:A Uniquely Effective Class of N - Heterocyclic Carbene Ligands for Cu ‐ Catalyzed Enantioselective Synthesis

Abstract
During the last decade, a new class of N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands has been developed, the most notable attribute of which is that they contain a sulfonate moiety. The derived Cu‐based complexes have proven to be unusually effective in promoting a variety of enantioselective reactions (allylic substitutions, conjugate additions, boryl additions to alkenes, hydride additions to alkenes, and allyl additions to ketimines). In this Lecture, the broad utility of the aforementioned NHC–Cu-catalyzed transformations, their applications to multi-step synthesis, and the mechanistic basis for the special characteristics of this emerging class of chiral catalysts will be presented.
