Event Details

The Great Recession initiated by the 2008 Global Financial Meltdown is far from over. And yet amidst the ballooning of debt used to stall the final reckoning, the concentration of wealth into a small elite has reached unprecedented heights. The worsening income inequality, the erosion of the middle-class, the stagnation of social mobility, and the austerity measures imposed on those who are least responsible for the crisis have all created a simmering hotbed for social unrest. At the same time, the environmental crisis caused by unbridled economic expansion and consumption is getting from bad to worse.

Brexit, the rise of Trump, refugees, terrorism, climate change - these are all just symptoms of a system falling apart. To safeguard the future of humankind, we must move beyond the “death machine” that is capitalism. The present course will explain why this is necessary, and together the whole class would explore how this could be achieved.
