Mongolian Traditional Vocal Music: Long Song and Throat Harmony
The two distinguished styles in the Mongolian traditional art of singing, Long Song (長調) and Throat Harmony (呼麥), are included on UNESCO’s register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Long Song is known for the long duration of each syllable of the lyrics, while Throat Harmony refers to the unique technique whereby a single performer produces a harmony of multiple parts, including a bass sound made in the throat.
