Event Details

Weaving is one of the methods of textile production that consists of two distinct sets of yarn – the warp and the weft – which interlock to form a single piece of fabric or cloth. To coincide with our current exhibition, "Imagining Qianlong: Louis XV’s Chinese Emperor Tapestries and Battle Scene Prints at the Imperial Court in Beijing", UMAG is offering weaving workshops for adults and children to explore this ancient craft. Participants will have the opportunity to use a traditional weaving handloom to create their own design, with a variety of different yarns to choose from. The workshop is designed to teach basic weaving techniques and to allow participants to explore a variety of materials and colours as part of the weaving process; therefore, it is unlikely that the entire weaving will be completed in the allotted class time.
Note: All materials will be provided and all looms must be returned at the end of each workshop.
