Pre-dialogue Film Screening
From the Queen to the Chief Executive 等候董建華發落 (2001) 1hr 46m

From the Queen to the Chief Executive follows teenager Cheung Yau-ming (David Li) who in 1985 is found guilty of murder and sentenced to be detained “at Her Majesty's Pleasure” – an open-ended sentence that can last as long as the authorities see fit. Twelve years later, Cheung is still behind bars, and with the Handover looming, Zhang Yuling (Ai Jing), a Chinese activist, sets out to help Cheung and others like him by working with lawyers to give prisoners fixed sentences, rather than have their sentences translated to "at the Chief Executive's Pleasure". The film was screened in the Panorama section of the 51st Berlin International Film Festival in 2001, which showcases auteur cinema and innovative approaches to different cinematic genres.
